The Team

We are a non-profit community based organization (CBO) in Kenya. We are targeting 2000 women and the youth for innovative agricultural start-ups annually. Our aim is to rejuvenate community’s ability to rely on agriculture as the primary source of livelihoods. Our course is in line with MDG 1,10 AND 17 i.e. to eradicate extreme poverty, reduce inequality especially in resource distribution and enhance partnership with relevant organizations.

VALUES OF ECBO

  • Trust

  • Focus

  • Professionalism

THINGS WE WANT TO SEE

Thriving agricultural projects, self-reliable youths, socioeconomically independent women, food secure families, financial growth in individuals and a better narrative about benefits of investing in agriculture.

GOAL

The goal of the CBO is to empower women and youth socially and economically and specifically to eradicate sex for fish trade in the Lake Victoria region.

We will achieve this through

  • Use of Agricultural Innovation

  • Training and capacity building on business and entrepreneurship

  • Market linkages

What social problems about the girls are you hoping to fix?

  • At the lake region we are tackling the prevalent "sex for fish" trade which is one of the leading spread of HIV/AIDS in the region affecting women more women by giving them fish cages to enable them to produce their own fish and sell and reduce dependence on the male counter parts.

  • At the community level we are tackling disempowerment of adolescent girls by leasing to them chicken, feeds and solar powered egg incubator which enables them to hatch more chicks, save money, pay school fees and

  • We support the women and youths through market linkages: EQUATE connects Women fish produce to the buyers/consumers. The eggs produced by the adolescent girls through the incubator are marketed locally to the consumers.

  • Training and Capacity Building on Business and Entrepreneurship: EQUATE AFRICA takes a holistic approach by offering business skills training and capacity building to ensure the participants get the right business acumen

What kind of support can be of value from anyone who might be in a position to help?

We are raising $100,000 for this year 2021. The funds will be used to purchase fish cages, feeds and fingerlings and solar egg incubators to be leased out to the women and youth groups

STRATEGY:

We are able to identify low income youth led families and women from backgrounds of extreme poverty through random selection.  Each woman and youth found eligible is enrolled into the program. Program activities include training on specific agricultural project, provision of agricultural inputs and equipment to the individuals and groups through a revolving funds scheme.
